| Q: |
What Is VoIP? |
| A: |
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
is a technology that makes it possible to transmit and receive voice
signals through a computer network. The voice signals are converted
into a format that can be transmitted over a computer network or the
Internet. This makes it possible to have telephone conversations over
any IP network. |

| Q: |
How Does VoIP Work? |
| A: |
VoIP works on the principle
of converting normal sound signals (analogue) into data packets (digital)
in a format that can be carried over an IP network as data. Once carried
over the IP network the data packets are converted back to sound signals
for the other person to hear. During a conversation, the speech (voice
signals) entering VoIP device A is converted to data packets, sent
over the Internet (IP Network) to VoIP device B where it is converted
back to voice signals.

| Q: |
How Do I Benefit From
VoIP? |
| A: |
The greatest benefits are convenience,
features and cost. Any VoIP device always gives the user more features
and uses than normal analogue telephones e.g. call forward, call
divert, voice messaging and management functions. Due to the fact
that VoIP uses an IP network, you immediately save on costs as there
is only one network to maintain. An additional benefit is that calls
made from one VoIP device to another, is free.
